What is VR Technology?

2017-04-20 01:51:18

Virtual Reality technology is actually a computer simulation system that can create and experience a virtual world. VR headsets are the products of the Virtual Reality technology. In 2017 CES, VR headsets become a bright star attraction. Many tech giants strive to release the newest VR device like Samsung, Sony, HTC, Google, etc. Up to now, VR headsets are becoming popular for movies, games, medical, and many other areas. VR will be a main stream in the future and VR gears will step into common families.

VR Technology

Virtual Reality technology is an important direction of simulation technology. It is a combination of simulation technology and many other technologies including computer graphics technology, multimedia sensor technology and Network Technology. Virtual Reality technology mainly consists of simulated environment, sensor, natural skills, sensor equipment, etc. VR technology is not a recent thing but has developed for years. Coming back to the development process of VR technology, there are mainly for stages. Before 1963, simulations of sound and behaviors actually contained the virtual reality technology. This is the first stage. The second stage was the budding of virtual reality during 1936 and 1972. The initial generation of virtual reality concept and theory became the third development stage from 1973 to 1989. And from 1973 to 2004, VR technology was further improved and started being put into use. At present, VR technology has reached up to a new level. It is predicated that in 2021, the VR technology will undergoing a total update:
A wearable device that is more lightweight and comfortable
4 K-resolution monocles
140°FOV field of view
Mature focus rendering technology
Better 3D positional sound
More natural interactions of action control
More precise computer visual application

Features of VR Technology
With years of development, VR technology has been added into multiple features.

1.    Multi perceptibility
Common computers and electronic devices also have features of sense of vision. While a VR device not only has these features, but also has senses of hearing, touching, motion, and even has senses of tasting, smelling. An ideal virtual reality world should have a full range of senses.
2.    Sense of presence
In a simulated world, users can feel the reality like a leading actor. An ideal VR world is so authentic that users can’t tell whether it is real or not.
3.    Interactivity
This means the operability to objects in the simulated world and nature response from the environment.
4.    Autonomy
All objects in the virtual reality world exit based on the principle of physical activity.

Application of VR technology

VR tech in medical
VR technology plays an important role in medical field. In a simulated environment, you can make virtual mannequin which makes it easier for students to learn about human body organ structure under help of track ball, HMD and sensing gloves. This method is more efficient than the way of using textbooks. In early 90s, Pieper, Stara and other researchers set up a simulated surgery training aid for simulations of leg surgery and waist surgery based on two SGI work stations. This virtual world was equipped with operation table, lights and other surgical tools. With HMD and sensing gloves, users can start surge operation on a simulated mannequin. In medical school, students can practice autopsies and other operations in a simulated laboratory. Before starting a real operation, doctors can repeat the operation to improve the correction in a practical operation. VR technology is important no matter for surgical training, operation effect forecasting and even researches of new medicines.

VR tech in reaction
VR has become an ideal device for videos and games due to its colorful sensibility and 3D environment. Nowadays, there are no too many requirements to reality of VR in reaction field, so VR industry develops rather faster than others. For example, Chicago opened the world first VR reaction system that can be shared for many people together. A war in 3025 is the theme of this system. Britain released a VR gaming system “Virtuality” equipped with HMD that strengthened reality. In 1992, a system named “Legeal Qust” was added intelligence function that made it possible for computer to learn itself. This system was honored the award of Annual VR Product. In addition,
VR also has much potential in family reaction.

VR tech in military and space
Simulation exercise is always an important subject of military and space. This provides wider promising applications for VR industry. Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) has been focused on the research of a virtual battle ground called SIMNET since early 80s in order to provide tanks for practice. This system can connect over 200 simulators. What’s more, VR technology can help simulate gravity environment to replace unstandardized underwater astronaut training.

Virtual reality technology is beneficial for life, medical, military, culture, business and other fields. VR application has expanded to all fields. Believe that it will become a main stream in the future tech world.
